How to Clean and Maintain Your Vape

Keep your kit running smoothly and tasting fresh

Looking after your vape doesn’t need to be complicated. A quick clean here and there can make a massive difference to flavour, coil life and overall performance. Whether you’re brand new to vaping or you’ve been doing it for years, a little maintenance goes a long way.

Here’s a simple guide to keeping your vape in top condition.

Why Cleaning Your Vape Matters

Over time, e-liquid residue, dust and general build-up can cause:

  • Muted or burnt flavour
  • Leaking
  • Poor coil life
  • Sticky buttons or pod connections

A clean device always performs better, tastes better and lasts longer.

1. Cleaning Pod Kits (Most Common Devices)

Pod kits are the easiest to maintain — perfect if you’re someone who just wants things to work.

Remove the Pod

Take the pod out and check the base for any liquid. A small amount of condensation is normal.

Wipe the Connections

Use a tissue or cotton bud to gently clean the metal contacts on the pod and the device.
This helps prevent misfires and improves connection.

Clean the Pod (If Refillable)

If the pod tastes funky but the coil is still fairly new, you can rinse the empty pod (not the coil!) with warm water.

  • Only rinse the pod shell — never rinse a built-in coil
  • Let it dry completely before refilling

If the coil is sealed into the pod (like Xlim or Vaporesso pods), just replace the pod when flavour drops.

2. Cleaning Tanks (For Advanced Users)

If you use a tank with replaceable coils:

Strip It Down

Remove the coil, glass and mouthpiece.

Warm Water Rinse

Rinse all parts except the coil in warm water.
For stubborn residue, leave them to soak for 10–15 minutes.

Dry Thoroughly

Leave everything to air-dry or pat dry with a clean cloth.
Reassemble only when everything is fully dry.

Fit a Fresh Coil

Cleaning a coil doesn’t work — once it’s burnt or tasting off, it’s done.

3. How Often Should You Clean Your Vape?

A good general rule:

  • Wipe connections: every couple of days
  • Clean the pod shell: weekly
  • Deep clean tank parts: every 1–2 weeks
  • Replace pods/coils: when flavour drops or it starts tasting burnt

If you vape sweeter liquids, you may need to replace coils a bit more often.

4. Battery & Device Care

A few simple habits will keep your device healthy:

  • Avoid overcharging — unplug when fully charged
  • Don’t let liquid sit inside the device
  • Keep the charging port clean and dust-free
  • Store your vape somewhere cool (not in a hot car or next to radiators)

A quick check now and then prevents a lot of issues later.

5. When to Replace Your Coil

Your coil is ready to go when:

  • The flavour tastes burnt or harsh
  • Vapour production drops
  • You’re needing to pull harder for the same hit
  • The liquid tastes “off” even after cleaning the pod

Coils don’t last forever — most people get around 5–10 days depending on liquid, usage and coil type.
